A Career in Auditing & Financial Reporting
Holly R. Powell has over 25 years of experience in the accounting industry. Holly began her career as an auditor at Arthur Andersen, LLP, in Houston, Texas. As an auditor, Holly reviewed financial reports, disclosures, and internal controls for her clients, which were mainly public oil & gas—exploration & production companies. After Arthur Andersen, Holly left public accounting and switch career paths to industry where she held the position of Financial Reporting Supervisor. She was selected by the Chief Financial Officer to spearhead the implementation of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, section 404, for the company. During this time, Holly began to discover her passion to make a difference for the business by identifying key processes, improving internal controls, streamlining financial processes, and creating a strategic plan to build future growth.
Leadership in Corporate Accounting
In 2005, Holly continued her career in Metairie, Louisiana, where she gained experience in financial reporting for bankruptcy requirements, fresh start accounting, implementing internal controls, developing a monthly financial reporting process, and improving process efficiencies. In this position she began as a “one-man” team for corporate accounting. She was eventually promoted to Vice-President - Corporate Accounting and Financial Reporting, building a team that provided key metrics and reliable financial information to corporate executives.
Larger Purpose
In 2016, Holly founded Powell Financial Consulting LLC with the purpose of helping small business owners better understand the financial aspects of their business. Through this mission, she wants to see businesses grow, build trusting relationships, and celebrate the greatness of each client.
Education & Community Involvement
Holly Powell graduated cum laude from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, with a B.S. degree in Accounting. She is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Louisiana. Holly is a member of the AICPA and Louisiana Society of CPAs. She has volunteered countless hours with her childrens' schools and her local church parish.
Holly lives in Metairie with her husband and three children.
